Bringing
Shepard Fairey's
artwork into motion

MSG Sphere Mayda x Shepard Fairey | Earth Day

Client: MSG Sphere
Brand: MSG Sphere
Service: Creative Development, Animation

We partnered with globally-revered artist Shepard Fairey to bring his iconic artwork into motion for the very first time. The result was Earth Power Globe, a 90-second animated piece that reimagined his bold, graphic style for the Sphere’s massive LED screen in Las Vegas.

Shepard Fairey has spent decades using art to speak out on issues like climate change and social justice. For Earth Day, he partnered with Mayda to create something different: a moving piece of art designed for the Sphere’s massive, immersive screen. It was a chance make a visual statement that could live on the world’s biggest screen, creating a moment of awareness and action.

With full access to Shepard’s archive, we worked closely with his source artwork to build layered animations that evolved his graphic style into motion. Expanding shapes, shifting patterns, and bursts of color revealed messages and symbols connected to Shepard’s Earth Day work. As the piece unfolded, we wanted it to feel like a glimpse inside the planet; a visual journey with a powerful message.

Bringing scans of a lot of my textures, my surfaces, spray paints, things that reference screen printing… to weave that into the graphics and animation was really a special achievement because it’s the full spectrum of what I do. The end result is so rewarding.

Earth Power Globe showed what’s possible when iconic art meets new technology. The project connected with audiences on a big scale, using motion to spark curiosity and conversation, and demonstrating how cultural beacons like the Sphere can become platforms not just for entertainment, but for creative work that speaks to the world around us.
